Esirus Tutorial by Kerosene

Esirus is a wonderful game; you overcome obstacles, fight for your goals, and strive to be the best you can be. Welcome to this truly original game; an inspiring mixture of automated horse sim and creative horse role-playing. As wonderful as this game is, it can be a bit complicated for the beginning user. This is a tutorial to help you get through the game and find out exactly what makes it tick. :) After reading this, I hope you understand all the odds and ends that make up Esirus. If you still don’t understand the game, well, ask one of the players; they know this game inside and out.

So, let’s begin with the very basics. This is the “Navigation” section of the tutorial.

The Home Link

·                                 When you click the home category, it will bring you to a page consisting of five subcategories. These subcategories are the following:

1.                              News [This is where you click to go and catch up all the new things going on in Esirus. You should check in here frequently to find out what’s going on.]

2.                              Your Profile [Click on this link to view or edit your profile. You can change your password, your email, your displayed name and even how your profile appears using HTML. You can always just keep it plain and simple too. This link is very helpful when checking your points, rank and whatever.]

3.                              View Your Horses [Click this and it’ll take you to all your wonderful horses. There will be a large scroll box on the page; inside that box will be the horse you chose as your active horse. This is helpful because you have easy access to that special horse’s stats. If you’d like to look at your other horse’s stats, simply scroll the actual page down and you’ll find a list of your horses. Click those links and VOILA, you’ve got your other horses stats.]

4.                              Mail Box [Check your Esirus mail. Occasionally you get mail from other players! Actually, the players here are more than friendly; you’ll probably get mail quite often.]

5.                              Log Out [Well, this is the saddest of the links. Click this and you’ll be logged out of Esirus until you chose to return and log back in.]

The Explore Link

·                                 When you click the explore category, it will bring you to a page with a clever little imap showing you the world of Esirus. There are 19 clickable links (some of which may not be working during the early stages of this game) that will take you to various activities in the game.

1.                              Staff Palace [The top of the map and the game. :) Welcome to the world of the staff. This place is mainly for the wonderful staff members who keep this game great.]

2.                              Cliff Point [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

3.                              North Peak [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

4.                              Pig’s Rock [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

5.                              Point Cliff [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

6.                              Cold Cavern [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

7.                              Vegetable Mountains [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

8.                              Loot Town [ Loot Town is a wonderful place. You can loot money from town’s folk and gain some nice Esirus credits. Unfortunately, your active horse’s stamina does go down, and I do believe you can only loot once a day. Happy pillaging!]

9.                              Rabbit’s Hole Trap [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

10.                          Low Valley [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

11.                          Dotty Forest [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

12.                          Lake of Healing [Another magical place on Esirus. You can go here once a day and drink from the lake. When you drink from the lake you gain stamina points, so, if you were low on stamina, it should replenish it. Unfortunately, the amount it replenishes is random, so you might need to go a couple of days before your horse is in tiptop condition.]

13.                          Fleecy Lake [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

14.                          Lush Plains [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

15.                          Orange Sea [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

16.                          Seafood River [Another place to loot! Also, you can swim here, unfortunately, that section of the Seafood River is not yet up and running. :( Maybe later.]

17.                          Deserted Desert [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

18.                          Lone Tepee [Currently this part of the game is not up and running. It’s still in the early stages.]

19.                          Mainland [My personal favorite. This is where the forums for role-playing are. Have fun!]

The World Link

·                                 When you click the world category, it will bring you to a page with eight subcategories. These subcategories are the following:

1.                              Shows [Once these are done, you can enter your horses in shows and compete against other horses.]

2.                              Create a Horse [This link will let you create horses. If you’re new to the game, you’re probably a Copper account. Copper accounts can create two free horses, after you’ve created your two free horses, creating a horse will cost 20,000 credits. The horses you create will be original horses, they will have no decided parents and the stats are up to you to choose. NOTE: When breeding horses, you have no control over the foals stats. You will also notice that there are a wider range of colors in foals due to breeding.]

3.                              Horses on Sale [You can go here to look for horses that have been put up for sale by other player’s. The stats are already set, as are the ages, but the prices are usually right. If you don’t have much money, I would suggest coming here; you can find great horses for half the cash!]

4.                              Train a Horse [For 50 EC (Esirus credits) you can train your horse and raise his/her stats. You can train in six main areas; speed, stamina, strength, defense, beauty, and intelligence. Every area is essential for you horse. Obviously, strength and defense will help immensely during a battle. Speed will help your horse to be quicker and more agile. Stamina helps your horse to do more and be less tired afterward. Beauty, I imagine, is a quality that show horses need; raise your beauty stats and showing will be in the bag. Lastly, you have intelligence. You could have the most powerful, beautiful horse in all of Esirus, but without intelligence, how would he/she know what to do with all that loveliness?]

5.                              Training Arenas [Currently unavailable.]

6.                              Battle Arenas [This link will take you to view all the battles of the horses in Esirus.]

7.                              Search [You can search for players based on their display name, their ID number or their points. Stalk to your hearts content!]

8.                              High Scores [Well, now you can look at the most advanced horses and players and become insanely jealous! :) You can check out the highest point user, the richest user, the most experienced horse, most intelligent horse, fastest horse, strongest horse, highest defense horse, most beautiful horse, the largest terra, and the highest pointed land. Let’s try not to turn to green, shall we?]

The Map Link

·                                 Wee, this is a super place! This link brings you to a cute little map with a billion horses on it. :) You can move around using the arrows and finds a place for your horse to sit, stand, whatever. Don’t worry if at first you can’t find your horse! You’re just overlapped by the other horses. When you go to the map for the first time, your horse will start out in the very top left corner; navigate him/her elsewhere using the arrows. Along the way you can bump into other horses and nuzzle, bite, whinny, or whisper to them! There’s also a neat little chat/talk thing below the map.

The Status Link

·                                 This page basically holds everything you need to know. It opens up to a page that has fifteen links. So, hold your breath and let’s just dive right in!

1.                              Esirus News [This is where you click to go and catch up all the new things going on in Esirus. You should check in here frequently to find out what’s going on.]

The Help Link

·                                 I would assume that this is the most helpful link of all, –place drum roll here- you can find out pretty much everything you know. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, well, just ask one of the players. They’re sure to help you! On this page you can also reset your horse description and page description by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking the buttons.

Well, this ends the section of the tutorial on “navigation”. Let’s move down deeper into other aspects of the game. This is the “role-play” section.

What is role-playing?

·                                 Role-playing is when you assume the role of another character. On Esirus, we do that through writing, and our characters are our active horses. Writing can be third person (ex. The horse walked into the clearing.) or even in first person (ex. I walked into the clearing.). Third person is basically when the reader is like a movie camera, and simply follows around the main character, seeing all that they do but never getting into their minds. First person is basically like the reader is seeing through the eyes of the horse; in first person, it is often easier to portray the character’s feelings.

How do I make a good post?

·                                 Describe, describe, describe. All good posts have detail; a post without detail is like a bowl full of cheerios. They cheerios (post without detail) don’t fill all the space inside the bowl, but pour milk (description) into the bowl, and it seeps into all the cracks and crevices and makes the post come together nicely. Which sounds better?

1.                              The mare walked into the field. Everyone looked at her.

2.                              She was the color of the ash trees; pale, slender, beautiful; and as she walked into that vast sea of burnt ember grass upon blunt hooves, she knew that all eyes were on her.

·                                 You should also proof read and spell check. You’ll find that people are more willing to respond to posts that are spelled correctly.

·                                 Use powerful language; words that create feelings of awe, or words that speak loudly and quickly. These words should be intense and keep the reader hooked.

Is there a limit to what I can post?

·        Yes, yes, yes! Do not post obscene things that might disturb someone else. You know what that means; do not cyber as horses, do not write about some nasty, brutal death or anything of the like. Keep it clean guys, keep it clean.

This ends the “role-playing” section. Let’s move onto the “miscellaneous” section.

Battles on Esirus

·        You may battle for experience, land, terra, or a mare. The more experience you have, the better chance your horse will win; besides, it’s less risky. In order you have to choose one of your horses (the horse you want to use to battle) and place him/her as your active horse. Next, choose a horse (any horse) on Esirus and go to their stat page (you do this by clicking their name). On the top of their stat page should be a link called ‘Challenge’. If you click this it should bring you to a form that you can fill out. This form consists of a prize ID ( the prize you’ll get if you win), what the battle is for (experience, land, terra, or mare) and a little message area for the owner to read. After this is done, go back to your horse’s page. At the top is should say “A fight is waiting!” click that and you’re ready to go. If you’re fighting for experience, it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose, you’ll gain experience points.

EC/ Esirus Credits

·        EC’s are the currency on Esirus. You use them to buy everything. You can randomly find EC’s (explore the site and you’re sure to find some), and you can loot from Loot Town or the Seafood River everyday.

Accounts

·        There are four different types of account on Esirus. Copper accounts are free and allow you to create two free horses. Silver, Gold and Diamond are accounts that you’ve go to pay for, but there are more benefits.

Clans on Esirus

·        When you create your horses, they are randomly set into a charter of Air, Water, Fire, or Earth. Clans are like the government/country. The clans are randomly chosen for an original horse upon creation. The foal will get the dam's clan if the dam and sire have different clans. The clans were created to unite many individual horses under several main powers.

Herds on Esirus

·        Herds are for role-playing purposes. You can make your own herd in the status section.

Terras on Esirus

·        Territories are owned by herds. Terras can only be edited by a herd leader. Private lands can be added to a terra if the lands were owned by a horse in the herd that owns the terra. Herd leaders can have several terras and can gain more by fighting other herd leaders.

Private Land on Esirus

·        For individual horses. Lands are mini-forums and can have posts. It can be only edited by the owner of the land. Horses can have several lands by fighting for them from other horses.

I believe that concludes the Esirus tutorial! Congratulations, and have an awesome time playing the game. :)
